In Photoshop Elements, I used the shadow/highlights slider and it does that sometimes. I probably should have looked at it closer. The sky is basically as shot, I gave the rock wall more light.
Thanks for your coments, MdW

Steve,
Thanks for your critique and the idea for cropping and distortion. As I mentioned to some other critiquers, this was done as a project just to show some sort of "keys". I kinda liked the critical focus but I can see your point, too.
Regards,
Phil

Roger, thanks for your helpful comments on my "bubble blower". I appreciate it. I was thinking that a closer crop would probably improve it some. Grandma's hands are blown out but she liked it because it eliminated some wrinkles. I like your little study on chess. The boys are really into it.

Thanks for the excellent advice, Justin. I probably should have removed the text before I downloaded it here. I used this image in a local photo critique group and we are required to put our id on each entry. You are right about the distraction. I need to look into the "watermark" idea.

This is a photo that makes one want to go there, dude. Very pretty.

I like the lighting you captured for this great location. Is it in your country? I'm not familiar with Mt. Vlasik.

Thanks for having a second look at my "pixelated" photo, Ashley. I like this one of yours. You have the eye of the artist.

Thanks for your kind words, Davide. It might interest you to know that I had to climb a silo to a height of 40 feet to get this image early in the morning after a rain in the valley.

Thanks Jim,
I can see where a top crop could do just what you say.

Jessica, very nice self-portrait in B&W. The fur is a nice touch

Dagmara,
I like your composition and the reflections off the sand and water in this one plus the figure for scale was a nice touch, too. Nice job! Phil

Thank you Susie. I like this site, lots of nice folks. Maybe I'll get lucky here and not get flamed too often.

Thanks Davide,
I had a look at your wifes work and I think you are right. She is a fine artist, indeed.

Thanks Brian, I am an old dog and always eager to learn new tricks. Retirement from a non-photographic working life has put me in the mood to create and I appreciate your comments and help. Phil

Thanks Roger, scaling ocurred to me as well. Not many people have seen these formations but there are roads all over the place in this area. Tomorrow I'll post one that has a road in it for scale. I can tell you that the tallest of these pinnacles are around 300' above the valley floor and the mountains in the background are in the 5000' elevation range.

Thanks Ann,
I've lived near here for over 50 years and, believe it or not, this is only my second visit, the first with a camera and probably not my last. The soda ash plant has been there for longer than you or me and they use coal, which is a bad fouler of the air, however, the product is necessary for many things we take for granted. The desert is a hard place to shoot becasue of the brightness and sand, so I use filters and I use Photoshop.

Thanks you Alan, very kind. I'm still learning on my 20D although I am a lifelong hobbyist at 62 yrs.
