Hi Bob,

I hope you are still participating in UseFilm, though judging by the date of your last post you've been away for a while.

I've just seen this photo, and found it's had no comments, which is a real shame. It is a cracking photo with some excellent lighting. It seems the flowe was backlig (natural light?), which brought the bug into silhouette.

A super macro shot!

I love these light rays... you captured them quite well! I wish that the tree on the right side of frame was sharp though... it really throws off the flow when something so major in the scene is fuzzy.
Nice tones and framing .

Hi Bob, I love this type of casual portraiture, children especially. They make wonderful pictures.
Here, being as you say miday, is not the best time for this when out in the sun, too much contrast. However, it can be improved in an editor, with minimum skill this will come out brighter and perhaps more to your likeing. Here is my attempt.

nice and moody....i think cloning out the little white dot at the bottom left would help though.

Bob, this is a marvelous image. Amazing how you were able to get the translucence of the petals captured on film. Great job.

Good shot, I like the way the yucca appears to intentionally bend around the sun.

very interesting balanced composition, and I agree with kim's cropping suggestion.

Not sure about your 'about" saying that there was no clouds this day... sure looks like you captured the clouds and the yuccas in perfect colour! What an amazing sky!
I think you could probably crop off the top 1/4th where the clouds get dark... it balances the image too well, with the darkness on the bottom and makes the yucca on the right seem small. Just my thoughts, though!

Saw this one this morning, and been thinking about it all day. Can't be constructive except to say that I wish I'd shot it.

This day didn't present the dramatic shafts of bright light from heaven as many would like. Yet the soft tones and quiet feel were quite soothing for me. Bob

I always love seeing the clouds open up like this, although I feel a little let down because the pictures taken to capture this moment can never really show what it really looked like. This has really nice highlights and a very interesting landscape to back it up, but it feels like there could be something more to make this jump from the screen.
But, unfortunately I don't know what it would be.

Well to be quite honest I do usually try to get things in focus. At 60 though the eyes aren't what they used to be. All my contributions to date have been scans of 4X6 prints using an inexpensive Umax Asta 2000. It definetly adds a layer of "softness" wanted or not. I have a dedicated print scanner on the way and am now sending film to Snapfish for developing. They offer full resolution downloads for a small fee. Bob Hazard

I don't mind the sharpness, this is a wonderful picture.
Very tight cropping for me but that is subjective ofcourse.
Good job Bob!

I could be either lens flare, a problem shooting into the sun at a slight angle, or a rainbow effect in the cloud. I actually was more intersted in the variety of natural grasses waving in front of a rather average spring sunset in the mountains. In fact I would have cropped out the aberation if the tall oat grass had not been there. Bob

Beautifully-colored sky, and good foreground. I think I'd consider cropping about 10% off the right side. I'm curious what that color spot is in the upper center -- lens flare or natural occurrence in the sky?

Hi Bob,
Though I don't disagree with Tk that this would work well cropped, I also like the more "calm" top half of the shot as I think it adds a useful distance and coolness - almost making the "fire" seem exciting and seen from afar, rather than right there overhead.
Chris.

She is three years old now and still loves to hold onto things. I know the picture is complicated. She is holding her mothers braided hair and at the same time reaching out to grab the necklace around her mothers neck. I focused on her reaching hand. The low light offered no chance for much depth of field....yet the softness and tone .....for me it is very much emotion.
