Next time I go out taking pictures of flowers, I'm gonna take me a set of watercolors and a block of paper. Then I can get the background I want. No, it's not my idea. John Shaw talks about doing this behind fish tanks to get nifty, out of focus backgrounds. Though it's faster and easier to do it in Photoshop.
Either way, the image is manipulated. (Now if that's not troll bait, I don't know what is).

The background is a great colour, but this image is really needing a point of focus... it's a shame that the flower is blurred. Yellow and blue are such striking colours together... did you ever try this again?

Love the composition of this shot! It looks very appetizing, which can sometimes be a challenge with food! By your comment that the bread was good... does that mean you didn't try the fish? You made it look so tasty! *grin* There does seem to be a shadow running along the fish closest to the bottom of frame, though. I would have liked a little more light on his tail.

Great perspective - a different kinda shot for sure, but as said I'd soften the light, go ahead and stop down all the way, use multiple flash pops if you have to. Point of focus on the head seems prudent here, different background (black is always a safe bet) could add some snaz, looking forward to seeing this evolve
