It looks like Smokie was a little bit to fast for the autofocus (or at 1/30 it could be camera shake?), but it is really close to being a great cat shot.

Hi Andy, I like the light on the flowers, but the background is in competition (too much) with the subject... Keep working it... Cheers. Sam

Beautiful baby. With your 20D, which is amazing at higher ISOs, use a higher ISO and shoot at f4.0 (you'll still get nice bokeh) and a higher shutter speed. The image is out of focus and my guess is that it is camera shake becasue of the low shutter speed. I have the same lens and will use f2.8 only when necessary such as indoor when flash is not allowed. In general f4.0 is slighlty brighter and sharper.

Thank you the comments...any suggestions are very welcome. I shoot this photo at ISO 800 because I didn't want a flash picture. And I handheld the camera, so increasing the f-stop would decrease the shutter speed, and likely increase the chance of blurring the picture. But I do see how the depth of field is shallow, something I never acheived with my old small sensor camera.

Hi Andy, I wonder what ISO you shot this at? A suggestion would be to get the aperture up a bit to make the face and eyes a bit crisper... I like how the background is going out of focus - nicely blurred. Well done.
