Actually, if you read a bit more about the civil war, you will find that slavery was a lesser part of it. There was a lot more to it than what people generally think these days. I personally am not Southern. And though I do not hold with everything the South did, they should still be honored for fighting for something they believed in enough to give their lives. Just like any other soldier in any other war. I am also not a civil war *buff* but thought the image merited being seen.

they died for a stupid and inhumane cause (i.e. for the right of a few slaveholders to live in luxury) in a bloody fratricide civil war: defending slavery and splitting the united states... incredible that still today people are worshipping their graves.

I do agree with you on the overexposure, thinking that a little bit of creative cropping will cut down on that and bring out a bit more of the beauty of the area.
