I see you've moved to one of my favourite BC cities, Kris. What a great image of the hummingbird, excellent bokeh. Brilliant and complementary colors as well.

David here is the shot in color. I didn't find it particularliy appealing... when I took the picture I saw it in b/w.

Cheers!

Great Shot, really interesting landscape! I would kind of like to see it in color though, B&W is a good choice, but I imagine the original picuture having beautful blues, greens and yellows. I guess I don't think having it in B&W makes it a better picture, it mutes the landscape to much...just my opinion, all the best anyway!

Hi Kris, I really like the close up, portrait type of apprach to this wildlife photo. Very well done, and amazing you managed to capture this with only a 55mm lens! (or was this shot taken in a zoo?) The sharpness and details are pretty spectacular too.

As to the composition, I think there's a slight unbalance. My eye keeps searching for the ears, and I believe there's too much of his lower body in the photo. On the other hand, for such a close up type of shot, the inclusion of a bit of background in the top left corner is a bit of a disturbing element, IMO. Not sure how you could've prevented that, unless you had managed to zoom in even further, capturing only the eyes and the snout of the wolf without changing the aspect of the image. Per attached the version I have in mind.

Another, minor, thing I notice is the tone of the image. The colours and contrast seem a bit dull. Undoubtedly, that's also because of the overcast weather or bad lighting, but I think with a bit of level tweaking, you could give the tones that extra punch they need to really make this photo tick.

Nonetheless a very strong and well captured photo...

Cheers,

Hugo

I agree, an immature bald eagle, pretty rare around here. I'm going to have to get one of those moniter calibraters, since all of your pics seem a little dark. Chris, I hope you don't mind that I fiddled with your photo in photoshop to try and lighten this one. What do you think? Dave

Earl,

There are a few ways you can do this and all are very time comsuming! Maybe I just haven't found an easier way to do it.

I take my image into PS, make a duplicate layer and desaturate that layer. From there using the wand, lasso etc select the parts of the image you want to cut out. As you delete peices the color from the bottom layer will now show. Its as simple as that. Again a lot of work though.

Hope that helps!

Kris.

Kris what did you do in PS to get the B&W and then get the color in the flowers? This is great.

Thanks Sam, took me a while to get the colors I wanted, although I look at it (having just completed it) and there are things I want to change already! I will let it be for now though.

Thanks again!

Kris,I like this shot. Changing the colors of the flowers may have given them just enough balance that you needed. The softness and DOF seems to have worked out well. Great Job!
