Thanks Hugo. I really appreciate the honesty. Everything you said is true. A photo of a bush can be very hard to pull off.

Hi David, I'm rather surprised this photo has received no comments yet, especially since you've posted it in the Critiquers's Corner...

I must admit I've opened this photo a few times, and decided against commenting straight away, because it doesn't really tick for me... Explaining why is more difficult.

The photo has a strange feel over it, as if it's a badly exposed and printed Medium Format image, a bit excessive on the green tones.

There also seems to be a slight haze over the photo, rendering it rather flat, and reducing the appeal of the photo.

This, of course, is all very subjective, and looking at your portfolio, I can only conclude you've done that intentionally. It fits very well within your style. But it also has a less dominant eye catcher / subject.

Another thing that kinda bugs me is the balance between the subjects, most located on the left of the image; the twigs on the right doesn't quite manage to compensate that, and are more of a distraction than an addition.

I realise this sounds rather negative, and it is, The longer I compare this photo with the rest of your portfolio, the more convinced I am that you can do much better than this. I've just been thinking out loud, so don't take it too seriously.

Cheers,

Hugo

The colours are great, but what's all that with the green tape? Looks like the gum is bursting out of the middle machine!

Hi David,

The sense of motion in this photo is excellent! Very strong and dynamic feel. Just curious, how did you create the blur? In PS? Or with a Lensbaby? (or in any other way?) Excellent composition and tones, Very nice indeed...

Cheers,

Hugo

great composition. haziness on the left makes it feel that it is forcing the rail to the right but those woody rods prevent it! great shadows!
