good shot would have been better shot a bit lower but it seems you were in a car, still you can always re-shoot a similar shot - I'd love to see it,, perhaps on a tripod with a slower shutter speed with maybe a wide angle (15mm)but at about waist high at about 1 second exposure!!!
let me know if you do it.

Regards

Nice DOF and asymetrical balance. A good capture of NYC.

here's a crop of this shot. i think there is too much wasted space in the image above and we don't need to see the name on the shirt. maybe it would have been better to include the entire right shoulder. oh well...

i wish that stuff in the upper lefthand corner wasn't there. bah, it's unnecessary and distracting i think

Actually this is a pretty cool shot, I like the older look to it. The way it is backlit through the window would be tough to do any other way. Besides you can't go wrong when there's a marshall stack in the pic.

What's missing is the "who's waiting". I think it would be better with a person waiting there. The photo as such is nice, but it's missing a story imho...

Hi Thomas, i like the idea behind this. It looks like it was quite a tricky lighting situation. But the result is quite good. It is unfortuntaley a little soft IMO and i would have made the B&W more contrasty, but that is a matter of taste. Best wishes from Switzerland, thanks for your comments and catch u later - Neil

Good image here which may have worked better with a higher ISO speed, it still works but I myself would work at it in photoshop with some selection level tweaking /burning & dodging and perhaps some contrast modifications. (try it it's great fun!)

You have a good eye Tom, the rest is technical which will click soon enough with your passion for expression just keep at it!!!
As for this image it is good and I like it for three reasons 1) the contrast. 2) the matching mood between both subjects. and lastly 3) good eye contact.

If I were you would try to do a series like this with different subjects/backgrounds/moods and from there you will see and be able to judge your work and dramatically build on it's improvements through observation.

I feel that you have something there and it is just a matter of self determination to get it to click.

beautiful and sulky, love the way you composed it - excellent choice w/the shallow dof, the way the 3 people are located in the image is just perfect.

Hi Thomas..
beautiful the idea of the sun stung with the DOF on the bottom in order to emphasize "I detach it", but IMHO the film has one dominant "green" that creed is little good! I do not know if only from the film depends or from post-production.
I can but to say that if applies to you a colorful filter eliminates the "dominant". perhaps also a vertical cut would have increased the "power" of the photo.

my best regards
roby

sergio,

i agree that this is much better--the contrast really helps. i used the 3200 basically because it was what i had in the camera at the time.

thanks,
tom

Good job on both, Thomas and Sergio, Thomas' gives it a sort of lost in a blizzard quality and Sergio's is more of a pet portrait. I like both renderings. Beautiful dog!

Thomas,

What I did was adjusting the levels and the brightness/contrast, I cleaned those white spots and cropped.
I think it would need some more space on the left though.
Is this taken in the snow? Why 3200 ISO then? I would like to see those details in Sadie. Beautifull dog by the way.(:

Best regards,
Sérgio
