Hey, Jimbo! Time to post some pics of Maryland. You're laggin. I know you could get a ton of shots for the Historical Places category. No excuses. Just dust of that camera, point, and shoot. Simple!

Bet you never saw any of these when you were over here James???

It's a great shot, frame filled, well composed and all bits in the right place.

Cheers for the comments - I like the "stoned" shots too. I posted it on another site I use ages ago and got virtually no feedback.... was gutted, printed it out and it's on my wall now!!

If you ever get over here again, sure Steve, the gang and I will sort out another trip out.

Cheers

Ade

Good shot. Great detail on the the little things like hair, paws, and markings. Chipmunks make good subjects. Easy to pick the spot and coax with a cracker practically taken right out the mouth of my very own grandaughter. ;-)

Emerald Bay. A little more on the Ferry (Dixie Queen)...they also have an evening dinner cruise with live band for dancing. Very romantic. Next time you're out this way, James, the cruise is on us.

Even though the subject is the Jay, and PS will help bring out the details, don't mess with the pine needles. I swear I can smell the pine just looking at this pic. Good shot, Jimbo.

Thank you Angelo. The bird is known as a Bluejay. I appreciate your suggestions and I will try to see if I can capitalize on your thoughts. I am not very experienced in photoshop so I reckon it will take a while for me to figure out but I give it a try. Thanks again. =)

Great capture. Do you know the name of the bird.

I like it, but I reckon you could improve it by bringing back some detail from the shadow areas. Depending on how much detail is in your original image, this could be done in PS with a blended sceen layer of the selected areas.

I tried this same type of shot at another church (St. Mary's of Ascension) to try to capture the stained glass and the inside walls. Never got it right. Either the glass was over x'd or the the inside was under x'd. Tough to get right with no filtering, but you're way closer than I ever managed. Imagine if those walls could talk...

Nice shot, Little Jimmy. I can tell by the way the colors contrast with each other, the suttle greens and strong reds mixed with slight shades of pink, that your Dad must be a great guy. :-P

Ok I feel dumb, I was looking at my camera and reading about shutter speeds. Now on my camera it displays S 5'. Which I mistook for being 5s like posted above. I guess it is really 1/5 of a second and if It were 5 seconds it would of read 5" on my camera. Hence the magic of no tripod. Feel free to slap me with a fish! =)

Wow... 5 seconds...

it's a shame we didn't start this when it was sunny at night really, no tripod required then. They are a bit clumsy to carry but when you've had a few drinks (ahem) it's very tricky keeping still!!

If you're up for learning more then I'd recommend reasing...

Bill Fortney's Great Photographic workshop (or something like that) as it introduces loads of photographic concepts in an easy to read and try way.

A bit more advanced it "Perfect Exposure" by Jim Zuckerman, that's just about getting the exposure right for the scene - nothing else. But that's the most important thing really.

Then there's a field guide by..... ummm I've forgotten his name, that's really detailed about everything. Not a bed time read, but not a chemistry lesson either.

I got them all from Amazon USA for very little with the dollar being weak at the time.

Sure we can explain most things between us though. Just ask BEFORE the pub

Cheers

I've not seen the BW one of this yet, but the subtle colours work really well - nice exposure on the walls and beams too.

Not sure I agree with Tiro - maybe loose the right window?, but I think it works as is
