This is quite true, Robin. The agency in charge (BLM, I think) is trying to control access to the area. Only 20 hikers are allowed each day: 10 permits are issued via the web about 4 months in advance, and 10 are issued the day before via lottery in the local office. Only hikers with permits are allowed, but I'm fairly certain there were more than 20 hikers the day we visited. Among the instructions hikers are given, is to wear soft shoes (i.e., sneakers) to help protect the area.

Faces only a mother could love!! Nice contrast of colors and shapes. Initially I thought it might be nice to have their bodies in focus, but the DOF you used might make their heads/faces stand out a little more -- especially those spikey feathers on top.
