I used Microsoft Digital Imaging Suite 10. The 2006 version is out now. It retails for about $60 and usually there's about a $20 rebate on it. I didn't have (don't have) six or seven hundred bucks for Photoshop and this software really does a good job for me. I can adjust curves and work with layers. It has very nice selection tools: edge finding, selection by color, etc., sharpening, all sorts of filters and effects. To me it's a very nice package.

I gave them a copy and his mom & dad, and two of his aunts. His mom especially treasures her's. It turned out really good.

Thank you for your comment.

Thank you Jan for your comments.

They were feeding and you are right the one has a bit of seaweed it is in the act of downing. I am not that familiar with swans. They have only in the past few years come to this part of the country, but they make good use of their long necks in gathering plants from under the water. Every so often one or both of them would turn tail up and go under the water for a time and come up with various plants hanging from their mouths and chow them down. Very interesting to watch.

I think it's just so special that these birds mate for life. I didn't really mention my reason for the name of this picture, to me it's just really neat that they bond in that way.

Again thanks for commenting.

Hello Michael,

I agree. I love the feel of this also. Very nice. I love the subtle shades of this sepia color and I really like the reflection in the stream. To me the sky is kind of blown and if there were a way to minimize it, I think for me the shot would be improved. Please, I like the shot or I would not comment on it, but maybe a portrait crop of the left side of this, showing the water to just above the tree line. I really like the detail and color and tones. Nicely done.

Thank you Elisa,

I've still got the bluebird box in my yard and this coming summer I'm going to really try to do a good job at getting some young bird shots with my new camera. Such beautiful little creatures.

Thanks again,

Hello Emmanuele,

A very interesting shot, one with lots of potential. I am not familiar with your camera, so please I speak of what could be done, maybe not with your camera, but in general. The subject is wonderful, but maybe just a little lost in the background for it's full effect to be felt. I like your choice of black and white, but maybe if it were possible with a shallower depth of field to blur out the buildings and trees in the background and again just thoughts, but maybe maybe move the shot to the left and get low to the ground to emphasize the leaning of the gnarled old trunk on the brick support. Please just some thoughts, lots of potential here and I like the feel of what you have done, but maybe some ways to enhance what you have done already.

Thanks Bryan.

I really love taking shots of these guys. I know that they're a humble subject, not an exotic creature, but to me that doesn't take away from their grace and beauty.

Thanks again,

Thank you Kathy and Steve,

It was a wonderful day. I was on the way home from a business trip, having driven 1100 miles in two days and worked till midnight or later two nights in a row, with a customer having problems. I took my time coming home, stopping often and doing a little exploring on the western Michigan shoreline. It was just a perfect fall day, too late in the season for most of the color watchers and too early for most of the deer hunters. I think my wife and I are going to go back up there in about three weeks. It is a very nice area. Yes, Kathy every day a present to be opened. . .

Thank you Kathy and Susie and Gustavo,

We had a wonderful day. He is such a trouper. He'll turn three in December. We climbed to the top of one of the higher sand dunes. It took us over an hour, stopping and resting along the way. I had an ice-water filled camel back hydration unit. He loved sipping water from Grandpa's drink thing. He made it the whole way, not complaining at all (OK, maybe just a tiny bit). It was a beautiful autumn day. Nice white capped waves on the lake. I packed a picnic lunch of ham sandwiches, chips, drinks and cupcakes. I wouldn't trade today for anything. I got lots of nice pictures and even more wonderful memories.

Thanks again,

Dave

Thank you Ann. I should have mentioned, the star you see is the planet Venus. Lots of people beginning to burn leaves. Maybe the smoke in the air makes for prettier sunsets. I've heard that after a major volcanic eruption the entire world will have pretty sunsets for quite a while. I don't know. The clouds and the colors really struck me.

Thanks again,

Thank you Mohsen and Kathy,

I'm standing on a seawall. It's one of my favorite spots for seagull shots. In the late afternoon the light direction is just right to back light the wings and I just love the effect and like you Kathy, I love the angle of looking down on a bird for a change of view.

Thanks again to you both,

I sure didn't. I should have know what was going to happen, but I was totally unprepared for it. I was so stupid I guess. I knew frogs ate just about anything, but It was hard to tell that he knew that the caterpillar was even there. Here's another shot.

I was on the wrong end of the action. Here's a shot of just a little before the frog turned around and gobbled up the caterpillar. Thanks for your comment.
