I Have Been Stuck On Svalbard Spitsburgen for 2 Months Now And I Brought My Cam With To Get The Aurora Shots But It Is Not So Clear Over Here. I Wil Be Leaving Soon And Have Not even Seen An Polor Bear.Stupid Polor Nights! Nice Portfolio

A smoking barn--great perspective for this shot. It's a beautiful composition. I really like how you include ground features sith your aurora shots. That helps put the expanse of the light show into perspective.

So now I know where the Aurora Borealis factory is that makes these beautiful lights in the sky. :)
Congratulations on the award for this stunning image Gaute. Thank you for putting in the camera settings you used so if I ever get an opportunity to see these lights in person I will know how long I have to freeze to get a nice photo. :)

This is very much the realt thing, Christian. But it doesn't help just going to Norway. You need to travel to the northern part, preferably north of the arctic circle. In my town, it's fairly common actually, but the weather's got to be nice of course...

Fantastic use of wide angle here. The lens distortion is working with the bizarre look of the aurora to create a surreal view of the static barn and a wonderfully odd scene. Great positioning of the barn under the aurora and also using the vertical framing. Spectacular shot by any measure!

Thank you all for warming comments. The picture is taken in Tromso, a small city in northern Norway, a bit north of the polar circle. This makes for beautiful summers, even if a bit cold, with the midnight sun. In winter it's just the opposite; the sun is below the horizon between november and february, so it's two months without daylight (complete darkness 24 hours a day). But this again brings out this marvellous "freak of nature", the aurora borealis (northen light)!
You're more than welcome, Murat. But since the weather in this part of the world could be rather extreme it could go several weeks, even months, withouot a sky like this......

Have you ever heard sound from them? I did once, it was an incredible beautiful one and not only green, shifting very fast and it was some sound. It was a COLD vinternight!
