About photo taken Mar 2005 at Dead Horse Point State Park outside Moab, Utah in mid-morning sunlight under mostly sunny skies. Appropriately named due to it's history involving horse ranchers who abandoned their herd here. Within sight of the thirstquenching Colorado River, the herd had no way to escape from the plateau on which they were stranded and died from dehydration while the river flowed abundantly below. The magical natural light turns the sandstone formations several varying hues throughout the day. At 9AM I got blue.

You have an impressive portfolio of desert Southwest US photos Marco. Horseshoe Bend, Antelope Canyon and Monument Valley have been beautifully captured, it is your carnivale pieces that really standout for me. I really REALLY enjoy them the most!

This is truly an amazing landscape Annemette, it's hard to believe that animals were actually fenced in with so much open land. The federal government controls most of the wide open spaces here. Cattlemen pay for grazing rights for their cattle. Most roam freely. It was only relatively recently that areas such as these were recognized on US maps. It had been considered wilderness "wasteland".

Brilliant picture- to capture so much. I'd never have associated it with all the dead horses.

What an awful thing to do - leaving the herd to die! How come that they couldn“t escape after the cruel men had left?
Except from that it“s an amazing landscape, almost like I imagine it would be walking on Mars:-)
Best wishes,
Annemette

The hues change with the time of day, and sky conditions. The magical high desert! Good to hear from you Nessa. Thanks for looking.
