About A young boy sitting around in front of his home, waiting for his friends to come home from school. Taken on a Highveld farm near Ermelo, South Africa. The children of the farmworkers on the farm attend a farm-school close by. They stay in primitive housing made of a wooden framework plastered with clay and decorated according to the Ndebele tribe tradition. Uncropped, minimal adjustments in PS

Joggie the concept (and composition) here is similar to my "Noon Prayer" http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1212636
Like you I chose to put my subject in the lower left of teh image frame and allow the surroundings to dominate. What is does is to actually drawer the view to the person. I congratulate you on the clarity and sharpenss. My noon prayer photo was difficult in that we were not allowed to use a tripod and the Mosque was very low light. This is a super image and great study

Fantastic candid shot Joggie! The expression on the boy's face is precious, looks like he's far, far away...!! Wonderful colors, details and composition... well done!! BTW I love the 'clutter' on the roof, it tells a story of its own... ;-D

A wonderful candid portrait with beautiful tones and excellent details and textures, I think I might have cropped out that sliver of red clay on the left or corrected the horizontal a tad and left a red frame. A great shot though, well done to you. Warm regards....Ray

Thanks Dave - agree about the cropping although I originally included it to give perspective on the boy's surroundings. For that it works well I think. Will play with the cropping and reload in future for a more graphic/abstract approach. Thanks again for the interest and meaningfull comments.

Thanks Manu - with the angle I took the shot, thats about everything you would see on the roof, just out of focus clatter in the background. Thanks for your meaningful comments!

Hi Joggie, Very well seen image! The bright red 'artwork' on the wall the bare footed little boy and the rocks on the roof tell the story of hardship but also very colorful traditions. I think you can also play around with framing, as Manu commented or also possibly take out the roof and frame him with the red outline.

Well put together shot, Joggie....the space above the boys head gives it great weight. My only comment might be to straighten the left red area and maybe include more of the top...I feel I want to know more about whats above him on the roof.

Great color

Great eye, Joggie. I really like the objects on the roof but this would also work very well if you cropped just below the red roof beam and just below the stoop, still leaving in the larger rock. Very interesting photo the way it is, though.

Best wishes,
Dave

very nice colors Joggie and nicely composed. I see the tires and rocks on the roof, we also have that here- to keep the roof inplace when the storm comes.

excellent capture.. the photo tells so much.. the colors are great. Even though the home is poor in construction... it is rich in family and tradition. The paintings show the pride... great work

As much as I liked the previous image and thought the chicken added to it's composition, it's not needed here and this is probebly the stronger shot. Nice work
