My problem is that I have a really bright monitor on my laptop and it usually tends to look dark on other machines... When I go brighter, I tend to go too bright... D'oh!

Convert to B+W
Increase white point on levels, retain high contrast to keep the dark feeling alive.

Good effort, just a really dark shot - so dark it's hard to make out the details in the thumbnail...
