About Harajuku is a suburb of Tokyo popular with the youth. A visit to this fashionable, area near Yayogi Park should be made on a Sunday. This is a part of a series of street photography shots I took from this area.

Converted to B&W and a little burning around the base of her neck, softening and crop done in PS. The background comes from a black umbrella she was carrying.

Hi Dave,
Thank you for taking the time to look and comment. Harajuku is an interesting area of Tokyo and a must if you find yourself in Japan.

Great lighting, fabulous portrait. That black, combined with her eye shadow really makes this photo. Excellent job, Jackie. Harajuku really looks like a place to find some very interesting subjects, as you've displayed.

Best wishes,
Dave

Thanks Jim for all the comments. I have posted this else where without the softness and have had mixed reactions to it. I think I actually need to go back to the original colour and rework this as it was done quite some time ago when my photoshop skills were not quite what they are today (and I still have a long way to go). This shot along with the next one I will post are my favorite shots from my Harajuku series. Once again thanks so much for taking the time to go through my photos and comment.
Take care and have fun,
Jackie

i really like this image a lot. i think the fact that she is pierced and is wearing odd makeup make the softness incongruous with her edgy appearance. I think the crisper and more detailed, the more dramatic. I'd like to see the grooves in her teeth and the pores on her face.

Thanks Bek for the kind words. I like the hair disappearing into the background too. It is really a mix of fancy dress and fashion for the area - you will see weird and wonderful (each to their own) fashions in Harajuku but on a Sunday teenagers from the outer more countryside type areas around Tokyo head in to dress up and hang out. I am told it all started because of a famous Japanese Goth band (it's early days) used to busk on the bridge where they hang out, but nowadays most aren't sure why they do it, they just know they have fun so why not.
Take care and have fun,
Jackie

Hey Jackie, GREAT portrait!!! Perfect in B+W and I actually don't mind the blurry ears, they suit the feel of this image....kind of a Japanese horror flick apparition look, even tho' I know that this is more of a fashion style than a 'fancy dress' look! The blend of the hair into the b/g is fantastic and really enhances the face.
Excellent, unique work, love it:)
cheers, Bek

Thanks levi for looking and commenting. I found that ear distracting to, but I think it comes from the hair she had pushed behing her ear. Thanks again.
