Very unusual soft focus that makes the scene look like a shadow play, Kenneth! The black crows give it a bit of Hitchcock-feel and the background enhances this feel very strongly.
The cropping is very difficult here. Removing the many branches at the far left to enhance the main scene would also crop a part of the very prominent thick vertical branch. So I think that it was the best to crop it the way you did.
