Hi Jessie! Thanks so much but Cydney, while delighted to hear your comment, explains simply that Grandma is Gorgeous . . . she is pretty and grandpa is COOL! (No brainwashing here! LoL!) I don't recall Lillie's picture in your PF . . . I take it she's the little girl lighting your life! But I DO have some tips.....
First . . . be prepared to be awestuck with how devastatingly adorable this can be . . . though probably worse for me than you since I've never been to one before. Second . . . take lots of memory . . . and lots of shots. Count on a high number of useless shots. Don't attempt to meter or set aperture before hand since the change in lighting (this was a professional recital) is rapid and catastrophic to preset expectations.
The 18-200mm had a good range for the theatre . . . allowing a variety of opportunities. Settings which seem to have fared well . . . on Auto (something I normally don't use but needed due to the rapid changes) were sport and portrait. During moments of inactivity such as hands up and held for applause at the end of a routine . . . the portrait can be used but the shutter speed will be a tad slower and it will have to be held very still. The sport setting (High-shutter speed, Auto) seemed to be best overall to capture the dancers but poor lighting WILL make slower speeds necessary (auto by camera) and you'll still need to be aware that on the auto setting the shutter speed will vary with the lighting . . . but stay as fast as possible. I tried manual settings with very poor results (except for my abstract one) . . . and wouldn't recommend it. Last tip . . . enjoy yourself and the show. That's what matters most! Good luck! ;)

BWA HAHAHAHAHAAAA! So . . . (Hehehehee) . . . let me get this right . . . ( * gasp * ) . . . OTHER . . . grandparents . . . seem to feel as though THEIR grandchildren ( giggle ) are the greatest??? Oh, MY! That's RICH! Apparently love IS blind!! Those Pooor Pooor misguided people . . . LoL! Reminds me very much of those people who claim to be genius . . . making it difficult for those of us who truly ARE genius to be believed! Heheheheee . . .
In any event . . . it's probably nature's way of making sure each and every grandchild gets to feel the best possible way they can about themselves . . . even those who aren't mine!! :)

Such a sweet moment Doyle and looks of such great concentration of their pretty little faces. The motion blur is just right and the tones from the stage lighting are wonderful. ;) Not in this shot. I've attached MY cydney - whose dance number was the only one she did . . . and the angle and lighting were even more awkward . . . though I got a few "snapshots" where I could. But even poor quality shots of MY cydney, I'd like to see and get so others would probably feel likewise. Unfortunate that with so many, literally hundreds of people, there'd be no way to even make the offer . . . most of the dancers I don't know either. But such is life!
