Jess, knowing Lillie, I can only imagine how tough of a shot it was to capture. I can't give you technical advice but I want you to know that I really like the picture.

Know too little about cameras to be any help! But I think this image is wonderful. Amazing to have candlelight. And the beautiful side face captured with such warmth.

You are ahead of me here Jessie as I have never attempted a candlelight shot.....Right now I think, 'yes, I'll do one' but then I forget again Dave and Doyle have given you good sound advice for this type of shot. I like what you have gone for and Lillie is a typical youngster, very hard to catch them right. Well done to you sweetie on a very good first try in this genre. Take care of you, 'see' you again soon. My best wishes always.....Ray;)

How cool jessie ... I love this shot too. It's beautiful . I've always wanted to shoot in the candle light... I am soo glad you got both Dave and Doyle to help you out .. They are great .
Meanwhile on your own if you hadn't confessed to your troubles while learning here I wouldn've thought you'd taken this excatly how you wanted it.. It's such a perfectly composed portrait type shot .. very artistic. It's a 7++ jessie , I love it ! Keep on shooting girlfirend!

hi doyle - yes, this is the dancer! :) she's hard to catch bc she's always moving. i am glad the recital is in may - gives me lots of time to practice. i took the camera to rehearsal a few weeks ago and learned that 3 out of 24 shots turned out. these girls move too quickly!
thanks to you and dave - i appreciate it! i'll get out the manual and figure out what you 2 meant. i am always learning - thank you!

Hi Jessie . . . Dave's suggestion would improve the shot . . . but an easier alternative would be to shoot in RAW . . . switch to night setting . . . turn on NR in the camera . . . and adjust during the RAW to Jpeg or PSD conversion to obtain the desired effect.
Great idea . . . but clone out the right side red flare along the frame. 1mm White border (maybe 2mm) followed by a 6 to 10 mm Black . . . Good stuff girl!
* All comments . . . here and in the future . . . are to be considered as (In My Opinion)! Would this be a dancer??
Regards, Doyle I <~~~~~

Hi Jessie! You got a nice effect on this one, but you may want to try metering off of a different part of here face, which should give you a little longer exposure and more light. Maybe try the Program setting, and spot metering, to give a little more variation in the exposure. Dave.
