Hi Sam...Great shot! As some of the others have mentioned, fantastic timing to catch that split second before the sticks started flying! Sharp and well composed...not an easy feat (I have tried), so I can appreciate those qualities even more. Well done my friend!
Take care...Robin

Excellent timing. I know what you mean about it being difficult to shoot. It is a VERY FAST sport!!!

Hi Sam, you have hit the nail on the head, i did get a little chuckle when Pete had said you seen the "rework", did you notice the stairs as well?, basically because it was someone from OS that caught me out, and not a native Melbournian (Peta). I had a dig at her for not knowing her town too. Don't ever be put off to tell me what you think or give suggestions Sam, as you know i'm alway open to constructive comments and ideas
catch ya soon cheers Jason

Hi Jase,
First off...thank you for your kind words on this shot. I really appreciate it! I was shot through the glass. Mine and my wifes(Kims) seats are right up to the glass at the end of the rink.
Now about that letting the Cat out of the bag. I was talking with my brother Rob and asked him to look at the shot to make sure I wasn't seeing things. I intensionally did not leave a comment because I felt that you put it into Critiques Corner to see if anyone would pick up on it. So I didn't want to let the cat out of the bag. I guess that Rob Let the cat out of the bag with Peta and then to you. Now that we are talking about it. I Love the idea behind the shot. I would only have tweeked a few things. I know that you probably know how to do what I would have done. But if not, I would be happy to send you an example of what I would have done to ever so slightly change things and bring the shot into balance. You are on my list of Photographers whos opinon I value and trust. So thanks for being there for me and not being afraid to let me know when things arn't perfect and pointsing out how I could have done better. Rob, Peta, Ina, Anne, Lisa, Robin and about 10 other Photographer always give me their honest opinions. That is what draws me back to this sight time and time again.
Anyhow My friend, Happy shooting and I am looking forward to seeing your next post.
My Best Regards
Sam G

great capture Sam beautifully time, with a 24-70 on you would have to be careful of the blokes back swing. Did you shoot through the "glass" or were you in one of the pits?
oh yeah thanks for letting the cat out of the bag on my last shot LOL
Cheers Jason

It does appear as if you are on the ice with them. You must have had fantastic seats or were able to roam the arena for a better perspective on the game and a better angle for this shot.
Very sharp and clear. Would have been great to see some hockey sticks blurred on this one to show some motion in the game, but it happends so fast the puck would probably have been out of the image.
Lisa.

I too like the shot and the composition. Sports pics are usually about "action" not the anticipation of. I wonder what the next 3 frames would look like if shooting in burst mode.

Thanks Victoria, I really appreciate your comment. You go to a game and think...Well I know how to use a camera. but after you get to shooting you soon realize that it is not as easy as the people who shoot sports make it seem. I took about 300 shots at the game and I think I have about 25 or so that came out decent enough. This was one of the lucky ones.
Kind Regards

You're timing was good on this one, Sam, with the puck just on the ice and before they've had a chance to move, so everything is good and sharp. I like your placement of the main action in the frame, too. The shot is full of potential action, just waiting to happen. Dave.
