That was pretty funny, Michelle! Interesting what other people think about...like composition, and how some like to have every inch of the frame with something going on. I like to maintain a balance between occupied space and empty space.

Just FYI, I didn't leave the last comment. I left the room with this page up and my boyfriend felt compelled to comment--he skulked off after I yelled at him ;-). Back to the topic at hand: I like this photograph, the saturation of colors is very rich, especially the variations in the wood as it soaks up the sunlight. Compositionally it's straight forward (my boyfriend doesn't know what he's talking about--the mountains to the left fill up the space nicely) but all of the necessary information has been given. Nice shot. Great location and emotional impact.

Good exposure. Upper left of frame is absent in regards to composition.

David, this is about 95% full frame. I see what you mean about that one hot spot on the door. There were some distracting elements to the left and right, so I kept close to the cabin. I've been known to weekend in some strange places, like this one for example, if it means getting some good photo opportunities.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. This POTD is so nice of you all. I am humbled.

Take care,

Mark

well composed shot..beautiful colors..that rusted barrel is great. Is that a sunroof? Could it be? Makes me wonder if someone actually lived here, who it might have been and what those solitary nights must have been like. Very chilling thoughts. The image could have used better resolution because there are a lot of JPG artifacts..and i'm not much for the framing. i would love this, i think without so much PS enhancement, especially if you had done a B&W conversion. It has a solitary, abandoned mood, so like the Depression era, CONGRATS ON POD, Mark!

Photographer of the day! Congrats Mark! This photo is great, the light is wonderful. I love old buildings, inhabited or not. I grew up on a farm and there were a few old abandoned houses that looked similar to this one, but more worn down. And that old barrel brings back memories; we would burn trash in those. Did you get any shots of the inside?

Is this your weekend home, Mark? ...Good colour but it would have been better in B&W (I would say that!) - imagine the possibilities in Photoshop's Channel Mixer. The cabin door looks slighty 'burnt out'. Is this the full frame, or did you stand further away to shoot? - I feel that a bit more distance beteen you and the cabin would have improved the perspective and increased the sense of isolation.Best wishes. David

Very good picture, great light ,in the house, good composition.
I think it deserves top rating.
Thanks for your comments to my home town.I have done many pictures of the old town, more than 2,000 years old, but I thought , the new town also deserves a critical look. I fully agree with you. More than it was need, architects do not look at the actual location and details of the landscape and only do an office job, regardless of local conditions.
Regards
jorge

Quite pictoral with excellent clarity and colors...an excellent composition with just a hint of clouds in the sky to add interest, though the cabin and its detailed surroundings have plenty of interest on its own...excellent exposure as well...at first i thought perhaps there was ttoo much light on the front, but now I don't...it's a good capture of the very well weathered wood

Interesting composition, I like when a subject like this, which usually get unobserved, if it gets in the eyes of a good photographer can lead to an unique photo!

Great sharpness and color! The yellow in the cabin is a nice color contrast to the blue sky. Nice slide. For some reason my eye keeps wandering to that cloud on the right. don't know why. regards.
