About I saw this man in a nursing home. I talked with him and found out he was a "Code Talker", a full blood Comanche Indian who served in WWII.

He died about two weeks after I took this portrait.

My camera was on a tripod for the long exposure. Subject was placed at a large north window.

Hi Jack,
I 'Googled'Charles's name and found out such a lot of info on him. What an interesting person he must have been. I am glad that they finally got round to honouring him and the other Comanches for their invaluable help during the last war.
Thank you again for bringing this wonderful man to my notice.

Thank you, Stacey. Yes, while talking to him he did tell many stories, some in his native language which I could not understand.

Thank you, Sylvia for your nice comment.

This man was the last of seventeen full blood Comanche Indians who were Code Talkers during WWII.

You can do an internet search for his name and get lots more information about his history.

You are welcome, Jack. And you deserved the comments I made.
I am a little jealous that you had the chance to talk to this man.

Hi Jack,
This is a very touching tribute to this wonderful man. I find this a very powerful portrait, the B&W accentuatates the craggy features, the eyes seem to be filled with a deep sadness, the swept back grey hair resembles the mane of a lion...an old lion who has been exiled from his pride,(yes, a pun was intended)A most evocative photo, thank you for posting it!
