About A juvenile milkweed locust displaying its rubbery, black colour contrasted with bright green and yellow. Infamous for their ravenous eating habits when in large numbers and toxic to humans when accidentally ingested (a few cases in South Africa were reported where young juveniles were accidentally cooked with a relish prepared from wild edible leaves).

Taken in full sunlight, Contrast and sharpness adjusted in PS

Excellent shot Joggie, I like the sharp focus, excellent dof, the catchlight in the eye, the bg and the excellent composition. I find these shots very interesting as we do not have critters like that around here which I gather is a good thing.

Hi Joggie,

Well as always your macros are amazing and a joy to review. Being a CC I'll be more critical in the hopes it "improves" your already amazing work.
Your focus and subject angle work well. Everything of interest is in focus, have great colours and is well balanced. I think in the case of this image the background is somewhat distracting especially with the burgundy splotches. My suggestion would be either to travel with a portable backdrop that can be placed behind your subjects so you can better control it, or do the post-camera retouch and alter the background to remove the distracting dark spots. Ultimately I think the locust would jump out more (pun intended) and be more dramatic visually.

Hope this helps and keep up the amazing work!
Shane
