Hi Gary, I like your photograph very much, chosen place of composition shows evidence of a carefully study also the lighting flow between the elements had easy peaceful but mystery to it. Personally seeing overall it frames dynamics based of the confident posture and light effect to it. That’s your magic my friend:) Harry

Very fine portrait with lots of classy feel to it due to the streetlamps and the tones used - a timeless portrait and still so full of character. Best wishes Annemette

John,
Thanks for your comments on the self portrait. My wife agrees with you as to the Jack the Ripper.... I like it though, makes me feel in the tradition of many 'Greats' who have photographed at night in Paris. Best to you.....Gary

It's a great photo, first of all, original that the background is LOWER than the foreground, I don't remember ...lot of photos to have that element in small distance... hahaha....I'll mess a bit with you...looks like you take here the position of Jack at London's historic killer hahahahaha.....kidding...sorry... I say that because of the very wild way you watch the camera...:-) anyway surely you have here a more dramatic portrait and that's a way that we don't see eather lot of times lately, good selfportrait Gary...

John,
Thanks for your comment. If you look at the work of the famous french photographers, especially, these stairs are in all portfolios. It is hard not to. I was in Paris for 6 days, it rained everyday, good for you with your leica, but tough for me with leather bellows.
On this evening, I shot the stairs empty or with people walking thru the image area. I decided to try one shot when I had some people congregating around me and the camera....focused on the front street lamp, then set the camera to shoot, and had person fire the cable release and count to ten one thousand. I stood still for the 10 seconds. This is the shot.

Standing near the shadows of Brassi it seems. Perhaps one of the ghosts decending the stairs knew him! A charming self portrait and I applaud your skills in crafting this image. Perhaps some day I shall visit Paris. John B

Thank you for your comment Davor......These steps have been in many great photographic anthologies of Paris....I photographed with no persons in the shot, but liked this one best even if it was me in it.

Thank you Shirley,
This image in color and tones matches to the rest of my French portfolio. I was pleased with the image although my wife thought I looked like some sort of rogue. GA
