I love the color and its contrast! I actually quite like the 1/2 dark and 1/2 color composition. I suppose you can play around with it. I have a similiar photo. Take a look at my "Blue and White Lights" when you have time.

Being from Central Kansas, this image is very personal. The natural minimalism here is what is so beautiful about the Great Plains. At first, I was distracted a little with the division of land/sky directly in the middle of the frame. But after analysing, I think this "rule breaking" helps in the feeling of solitude here.

Larry, the big black bottom really takes away from the focus on the sunset. And the oil pump in the distance isn't too noticeable. You could have done a square image and crop off quite a bit of the black bottom. I posted another possibility of what you could have done.

The stark feeling this gives is good, try to crop so that the horizon is not in the middle of the frame.
