While deer watching in Tennessee, I saw this buck watching me. I felt with the sky ang long grass, this photo looked like a painting. I wanted to crop in on the buck, but I though this took away from the colors. Any suggestions?
Kim, Congratulations, this is a great photo. I concur with the cropping suggestions above. The basic idea would be to crop so as to "move" the deer from the center of the photo. The animal is alert and on the verge of leaping away, so you want its tension to be transmitted to the viewer. This can be done by the cropping. In addition, I'd suggest you use PS to add some Gaussian blur, which would enhance the painterly aspect of the image. Good eye!
what a beautiful setting and you have captured it well. agree with the cropping, you would still have the lovely landscape and color included, and have the buck stand out just a tad more. nice.
I pretty much agree with Sarah. The darkness to the left and bottom dampens the mood, and I think cropping a little of it would lighten the picture tremendously. It is a marvelous photo. The red of the buck's coat is great.
If you wanted to crop, maybe 1/3 off the bottom, and then another 1/3 off the left side.(sorry, can't show you - it's my mum that does the computer stuff for me, and she's not here at the moment) Sarah
