Amy,
I have always use a Pentax K1000 totaly manual camera, until I went digital a little over a year ago. That is why I know manual settings. Use a manual camera and you have to know what this stuff means.
Go to: www.cs.mtu.edu/~shene/DigiCam/User-Guide/950/depth-of-field.html
See if that makes any sense at all. Any questions let me know...

Martin,
Ok, don't laugh. I don't reall know what f/stop is either.
I am just learning more than just time value.
I have been shooting with a Canon Elan 7 for the past few years until last week when I upgraded to the Rebel XT digital.
So, I am here more as a student, looking to learn all I can to be better at this.
Any help is welcomed.
Thanks, Amy

Amy,
Just give me your shutter speed, f/stop and ISO and I can tell you how to get a deeper DOF... ;)

Amy,
Spot on IMHO, except for the DOF, in which could be a bit deeper...

Beautiful, soft effect on the water, Amy! The dappling of the sun adds to the serene feeling. It could maybe use a little sharpening? Nice shot!
