About I created this image as an ode to a small and very old gravestone, which made me interested in the woman's life. The image was created through standard film techniques. Only brightness and contrast were corrected when the image was scanned, as then some unsharp masking.

Man this is powerful. I know of a grave marker with the name "Baby Monster" on it. (the whole Monster family was there). You want to try that one on for size? :) This is amazing work Andrew.

Michael (Peacepole1) Soaries   {K:46} 6/30/2004
I like the imagery - I would've liked the headstone without the girl face or have her face smaller and justr barely make-outable

  0

Willem Pitel   {K:2762} 6/26/2004
Andrew, this is an outstanding piece of work. The artistic abaility of the photographer is exceptional. The opacity of the girl's face is just right. The sorrowness in her face reflects the fact that the main object is the gravestone.

Congratulations on an exceptional piece of work.

Willem

I've not been on here in a long time, and tonight I stumble in and find this here and I'm impressed. I love the contrasts - where sharp blends to softness and back again, it's a feast of textures for the eyes. The expression of your model works to convey something slightly haunted - I too find myself wondering about the lives of these strangers that left life behind long ago... a beautiful way to immortalize that thought.

Susan Cropper   {K:2166} 6/3/2004
Excellent image, haunting. I too would have made the face less prominent though. Please take this as a compliment; this photograph would make an incredible CD or book cover.

Very creative and the result is wonderful. Very eerie and not just the fact that her image is superimposed on the gravestone. Her eyes are so mournful and haunting. Perfect choice. Well done.

A nice idea but I feel the face is too prominant in the headstone. I feel if the face was not so distinct it give a more mysterious feel, just my thoughts. Nice work. Regards John
