Lovely, beautiful saturated colors. Very nice lighting. Looking for a reflector take a look at the Photoflex Light disk. I have the 5 in one kind. Very portable. Great image and well presented.

Hi Timothy,
Not satin, but velvet. Satin is going to give you a lot of reflection that you might not want! :-)

How lovely! So beautiful forms and colours, and wonderfully composed flower closeup! The light is great too, but another light from bottom front as an addition could give it an even stronger "glow".

Neil, also wanted to say that I had a good giggle at your last paragraph :-)
I wouldn't mind being a regular in the Ragdoll Weekly because you know by now that I live for this breed and my cats ... but my dear, National Geographic will never use my images ... not in my lifetime any how :-)) But as long as I have joy doing what I am doing, that is more than what I have ever wanted :-)

Neil Dolman - you do know that you are becoming one of my most trusted critiques, right? :-)) Once again I must thank you for being so incredibly honest, but I also want you to stop apologising for being so frank. Why else do we post our images to UF? To be critiqued and rated, right? And if somebody objects to constructive criticism, then hey ... maybe this is not the place for them!
Yes, quite correct. It does look flat compared to the vibrant colour of the rest of the flower.
No, I don't have any equipment other than my camera. I don't have a light meter, don't have reflectors, nada, zilch. I was trying my best to keep the natural light off the orchid as I could see it was too hot on the pink petals. I also had to tilt the orchid so that I could get a fair enough composition. Did I mention this was a difficult flower to capture?
I think I must take my Santa and go see what is available as far as reflectors are concerned. And at the very least, re-shoot this beautiful Cattleya!
Thanks Neil!
Linn

Hi Linn, this is a great shot - well done. Here is my two cents worth, apart from all the accolades you've received and are well derserving, I find the dark part in the middle of the orchid a little flat. Everywhere else you have highlights, light and shade, texture etc just here it is a little flat. OK, so it is a darker part of the flower but maybe you could reflect a little light in here next time. I have a great portable collapsing ring with two different reflecting sides, can't remember the name of it, but it enables me to just highlight the dark areas a little. Do you have one of these? or have you ever thought about this? Don't want to criticise just want to help you get off the center page of "Ragdoll weekly" and onto the front page of "National Geographic" ;-) Best wishes your friend - Neil

Hi Arwa
Even the f7 should have had more focus to this image but I remember the breeze and how it presented a degree of annoyance.
