This one was built in 1824. After the Civil War, it was in such disrepair, it had to be replaced in 1870. In 1874, piers were built at the mouth of Sodus Bay, and a beacon installed at the end of the pier (New Sodus Bay Lighthouse). It was improved in 1901, and replaced in 1938.
The Old Sodus Bay Lighthouse, was decommissioned in 1901. From 1901 to 1984, the keeper's house residence housed personnel maintaining the pierhead light. It was then bought by the Sodus Bay Historical Society, which maintains the lighthouse for tours. The Keeper's Residence houses a gift shop, maritime museum and library.
