About Subject background: Venice, sun is going down, people are rushing through the streets. But there is still some statics even in the greatest hurry. this time, an old lady lets the time freeze, allowing us to see a snapshot of time. one can feel the sadness, the loneliness, the timeless moment, the aging...

PS background: IR filtering, color balance, sharpness/blur tweaking.

As always: Honest feedback highly appreciated.

As for shutter/aperture: no flash-philosophy =) (kudos to Carlheinz)

The black and white seems to me to add more of a sense of timelessness than the color...the livliness of the color distracts from the sense of a moment frozen.

Dear Elisa,

so many nice words from your side. I really feel flattered.

I try to tell some stories in the about as I think it's more interesting for the viewer. and it perhaps stimulates the fantasy a bit.

thanks for the feedback,

Great title, Thilo - play on words - could indicate freeze frame or that you are getting "static" from the young woman who has been interupted in her thoughts.

I love the little bit of motion in the skirt and legs.

Congratulations on the posting today. I was happy to see you on the home page.

Cheers, Leora

Hi Thilo,

Oh wow, I never expected this !!!

I was in one of those moods and said it as I saw it ... and NO - no alcohol was involved at all.

Over the moon with the Featured Critique but more so that I got you laughing. That is after all what it is all about ... ie having fun while we enjoy our hobby :-)

Thanks again Thilo.

It is a great "freezing of time" moment. Landscapes, cityscapes, abstracts, lines, digital manipulating.....nothing is more interesting for the camera than the faces of humans. Joy, anger, agony, sadness, madness, sexual desire...it does not matter. The human face....that is it.

Congrats on the award Thilo! No happy faces here! Most people in a hurry, one not. I?ve heard that when you get retired, the hurry really starts! Doesn?t look like that here, though :)

I do like the variety of your shots Thilo! You are one of the few who really seem to think deep about the thing called life. Anyhow, your shots always make me think of so much more than what I see; demonstrating how much a good/thoughtful "About" can add to a picture ...

Jeanette Hägglund Jeanette Hägglund   {K:59855} 11/14/2004
Great capture! This makes me think about the coming Christmas and stressed people running around for presents....peoples running between A and B, while running they miss the beauty that surrounds them. Faces that "closed" like a mask, unreachable humans which in their heads are somewhere else. The old lady stopped for a while to watch the advertise in the window. The static and the dynamic.... good work Thilo.

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique Fabulous candid that somehow screams attitude !!

The young girl in front seems to be taking her hands out of her pocket and coming over to hit you !! The lady looking in the shop thinking "I'm not paying those prices", and the 3rd lady behind wondering wether to hit you with her umbrella - or maybe just swing her shopping at you lol

Seriously though, it is a great capture which certainly tells a story. The toning is also wonderful.

Best wishes,
Steve

Hi Thilo, Nice candid shot, but it looks lie you've been spotted. The DOF adds a very good feel to the perspective, and once again (I promise, won't go there any more) I love the blue tones. Very nice image. I agree with the No Flash philosophy, using a flash would've killed this shot, wereas the slight motion blur only adds to it....:)

Cheers,

Hugo

A very good street shot !!
( dont worry , the old lady is in a very healthy condition. No edema of the legs, so the heart is working fine. Good clothing and interest to go out: no signs of depression :) )
The capture is perfect, but I feel different here about the emotive content.
Very good work with a wide range of possible interpretations !
Regards

Great shot Thilo... Excellent time freeze... Love the compostion... Great tones and very nice moment...

Wandering in the story of your picture... One must stop also in time and realize how lonely and rushing most of the times our life is...

We hurry to work in the morning, and then home in the evening, and we do not stop to live...

In this picture the gestures of the faces are almost angry... I do no see anyone smiling or laughing... Even the old lady...

Is this how we all feel about life??? Sad, lonely, angry... I think we must freeze ourselves and begin to think about being happy...

Great Thilo... Keep up the good work...

Cheers,

MaLuisa
