Seen your work elsewhere Pat and at the Timecatcher site, what a great outlet for your talent and you are the envy of many of us I'm sure. I like how you often use a long portrait format with such depth and foreground interest. The ground resembles cobblestones and I like how they recede into an eventual pure band of grey beneath the mountain. It's beautifully oversaturated which can seem a little old hat but then I suspect it's a style which will have classic endurance. Ian

This looks fantastic! Great composition with the little twig in the foreground and the dramatic lighting of the background mountains.
It reminds me of "Salar de Uyuni" in Bolivia.

Woah. breathtaking and mindbending.

The light is superb. It looks like a composite image, as if the mountain was lit at a different time than the foreground, is that because of dusk or dawn sidelighting and hues, whereas you are in semi-shadowed flatland?

Wonderful. I will try to make it there, I have been to most of the great National Parks of the Continental USA, but missed Death Valley on my S.F -> NY roadtrip, planning to go there, especially from this new perspective! Thank You.

WOW! I can see the photographer out ther sweeping up every imperfection but leaving one very well placed twig for composition. Great choice of time of day to take this shot. you found some really great light! ANd without the clouds to finish it off it would be a little less perfect!

Roger Williams Roger Williams   {K:86139} 12/8/2004
Would love to go there with my favourite 21mm lens... I hardly dare say it, but I feel the contrast between highly saturated colours on the mountain and in the sky is a little too strong given the pastel monotone of the ground. I just feel that Velvia 50 is overkill. A slightly more natural colouration for the distant scene might have enhanced the overall effect... Just a thought! (and no, I DON'T think I could do better!!)

I'm surprised at the very slow shutter speed. I presume this was in order to use a small aperture to get maximum DOF. Was it actually quite dark then?

Very nice! The simple branch in the vast expanse of the dry lake bed is a fantastic foreground for the warm mountain and cloud.

I'll be in Death Valley just before New Years.
