This is a wonderful photo, Rachel! You sure caught the wave at its apex - and the little girl is certainly poised to jump right in! It reminds me of when my Mom used to take me down to the Ocean City, NJ when I was a little girl just like in this picture.

Rachel, It's nice to see a younger person on here with such an itnerest in photography. You are doing a lot of good things. Keep with this site and keep looking at art, all types of art. One of the best ways to branch out your work is to see other peoples, not to copy there things, but to open new ideas and paths to follow. you are doing a really good job now though, nice compositions and presenting some ideas, good work.

And Greg, thanks for the comment... and I actually took the photo in black and white on my camera... I didn't desaturate it... I was kind of annoyed that I took in only in black and white cause I wanted one in color also but... oh well! Anyway Thanks a lot for the comment! :)

This image gives me a sense of tension...not that it is bad, what I mean is that it shows a prelude to action. I like the composition and you have nice B&W tones from the digital capture. Did you just "desaturate" to get B&W? It might have been possible to get a better range of tones in editing, but the higher contrast you have here gives a definite sense of bright sun. Good work.

Rachel, I duplicated the layer twice, made one a "burn" layer and one a "dodge" layer to darken the dark areas and lighten the light areas, for a more dramatic contrast and detail. Then I added a diffused glow effect to give it soft, glowing look, then added the blue tone! Glad you like it ;o)

And Melanie of course I don't mind... what you did looks VERY cool! I know how you got the coloring but how did you do the rest? It kind of looks like the burn tool (on the program I use)... but I don't know! I love what you did with it :)
