This is an amazing portrait Craig . The quality outstanding . I like the b&w myself . I think b&w give a portrait like this one much more distingtion Well done .. Great use of a narrow DOF. I would say that the B+W version is more effective, but I usually find monochrome to be flattering for most portraits.

Sometimes I find that a photo can work both in color and B&W. I like the ability to shoot in color and convert to B&W thanks to the digital processs. I use a plug-in in Photoshop CS called Power Retouche. It lets you convert to B&W and provides a lot of manipulation. It also works great for color photos. I am finding that my Canon i9900 printer while great for color may not be suited for B&W. B&W inkjet printing needs more than a blank ink cartridge.

I like both of them, they each have a different feel, the B/W isolates the figure a bit more, not having the distractions of other color around him, but they are both great. Alison

since I can not see the color version I have to say this BW is very ok; sometimes the color version are good, sometimes not; for this one I may agree with you the second is true
