About This picture is for the house-wives of our hunters whose weapons are not gun and bullets. I could not give a head-count because they are over 300. They are from all corners of the world. They arrived by bus, by train, by private aircraft or by tuk-tuk like me. All of them had same purpose: shoot the sun and clouds over terraced fields. And I had different reason: shoot them, because they were armed with the best and latest version of photographic technology while my camera maybe cheaper than their tripod.

You don?t need to pay me as an informer. Here is the free info for you:

? Location: 25 km from Yuanyang town which is 337 km SW of Kunming and 200 km NW of Hekou.
? Time: sunrise
? Date: Feb 21, 2005

Note on destination:

Yuanyang is famous for cultivating terraced fields and Hani minority has created an environmental wonder in mountain area. Their culture is a terraced field agricultural civilization, which has a perfect agriculture system and an agro-worship system as well, the concept of worship is built on the basis that man and nature are in harmony, countless terraced fields are an evidence of this belief.

Terraced fields have a long history. From the data in Chinese characters, they have already had a history of more than 1,300 years. Hani connecting terraced fields are seen from mountain to mountain with great momentum. In Yuanyang, the area of terraced fields amount to more than 11,000 hectares, and for more than 3,000 steps of which stretch from the foot of a hill up to the top.

Yuanyang is on a high ridge between two valleys. It's mainly a new town dominated by unimaginative cement buildings and two long streets. Its buildings rise so steeply that stairways connect many roads. Strolling through the market was visually intoxicating. Ethnic minorities, who make up the bulk of the people in town and the rural scenery are Yuanyang's attractions. The town was a bustling mosaic of brilliant color. Women in dazzlingly embroidered outfits toted bushel baskets of produce that seemed to glow in the alpine light.

Yuanyang terraced fields has been placed into the preparatory list of World Heritage in China. Application of Hani Terraced Fields for World Heritage has been committed to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization.

I would be honored to accept this in lieu of your words. Although I have done nothing more than speak the truth I am honored by your gift.
Respectfully.

Ellen:
I don't know how to say thanks enough to your rewarding words.
I am going to post a picture taken at different angle and time for you in lieu of my appreciations. Its name is "YUANYANG AT DOWN".

Regards,

I asked because you have a knack for telling a story. I thought maybe you wrote articles professionally for travel magazines or something.

Ellen:

What made you ask me this question?
(Do you write for a living?).

I glad the story brought you a short moment.

Hani:

It is a big coincidence here: your name HANI is the name of the minority people at the location where I took the photo. Please refer to the "ABOUT".

When seeing your name, I thought you are from... Yunnan, South China.
