very cool, stefan! color versions of your laser refraction abstracts? it's the first thing that came to me when i saw this. the presentation is just perfect for this. each image is interesting in-and-of itself but shown this way one texture becomes foreground for the next. very neat idea and as usual, very well executed.

Excellent concept! The similar tones keep the four shots together, and the versatile lines make the collage dynamic. It's peculiar, how each of these shots would not work "per se", but you managed to incorporate them into a well-functioning piece of photo art. Regards, Luka

Hi Becky - thanks for your detailed comment! They are all shot in sequence focusing on the bottom of a pool in sunny California. It was a calm day and I did play with the amount of waves in on the surface. These refractions always fascinate me, yet I find it difficult to capture them well. It may have something to do with motion which is why I went for a collage. There is no toning, the edits are levels and an S-curve for the distribution of values, but as you noticed, the top left one must have received a little less of that treatment... All the best, -S.

This collage really reminds me of your water & dye photos, but it also stands on its own as a unique piece. Were these all taken at the same time and location? Did you do anything to stir the water at all, or did you wait patiently for the light & water surface to change? Each picture is a delight to look at, and has its own charm. I especially like the top right photo (the sand is quite clear, so it reminds me of a moonscape) and the bottom right photo (because I have no idea what those are! They look like atomic tinker toys.) My only hesitancy about this collage is the photo on the top left. Because it has the most light, it looks the bluest. I feel if you toned it with a bit of green, the unity of colour would work with the unity of line/flow to really pull this piece together.

Wonderful collage, Stefan - so nice to see you back! I love the color of the water in these, and of course the variation in the wave patterns. Each one can be enjoyed individually, but the four together is like a medley - variations on a theme!

I love how all the lines in each image seem to pull me to the centre and into the rest of the shots. It's like a cycle... And I love water, so this is great to me! Nice matching tones, especially in the top right and lower left... gives it a nice sense of balance! Creative and unique... of course it's Stefan's!

Hi Stefan,
that's a great pile of water shots here. the collague gains from the differences in reflections and lighting situations. the color almost looks like poison ;-)
