About There is a surrealistic technique called fumage. It involves passing a flame across an oil painting to let the smoke do some nice antiquing to it.
I was using a digital sponge tool on dodge to lift the highlights in the trees and noticed the nice speckles on the background here. So kept going.
Because it not random it doesn't have the soulfullness of the old technique invented in Cafe Deux Magots in the 1920's but I like the look.

This is beautifully timeless and classical- very atmospheric image.

Tom hi! Some moonlight but the strong stuff is from a window in a woolshed where I stayed the night. Thanks for dropping by.This shot I wonder about reposting, the sheep seem to have become a lot less sharp once I reduced it to 800. I wouldn't have expected that but it's a phenomenon I'm starting to notice.

phew! very nice! i was thinking to myself how much this reminded me of some oil paintings when i read your 'about'. i think you've done pulled it off. interesting technique. here it adds more than just texture. i see many, many things lurking in the shadows between the trees. i'll have to return and look at it when i'm not sober and see what happens ;^) i am curious about one thing tho: the title is 'sheep at night...' so what is the light source on the field? moonlight? headlights from a car? just curious.

take care,
tom

I love the effect here! A favourite for me!

Definitely worth toasting an old oil painting! Hope the museum curators didn't catch you ;)

oh - i like that. just the kind of masterpiece you'd expect to find in an old pub, smoked-on by generations.

Ian, it really does have the oil painting feel! I absolutely love what you've done here... there's a lot of "master" in this piece!

Superb and otherworldy! Looks utterly primitive. The canvas created by the trees really something.
