About This traditional noodles restaurant didn't feel happy in your typical concrete and plaster Tokyo multi-tenant building, so they clad it in pre-aged timber, complete with knotholes, to give it the right "atmosphere." Even the door was created with carefully "handworn" areas that make it look as if hordes of people have been eating there for years. Harumph!

Riger, to be honestI meant more the artistic quality ! :-))
The 4/45 beats them all IMO, only the Heliar can follow or is on par. I think among the slow ones there is nothing better, the CV Skopar 2,5/50 or 35 are pretty close and John's Taylor-Hobson and Industar are amazing performers too .

Betram, nice to hear from you again... Thanks for the encouraging comment. I think the image quality of this CV 40/2 is comparable to the Fuji 45/4 (although the latter is the greater achievement in view of its much bigger image circle. WIth my nice range of good, small, light lenses I don't miss a zoom.

Umm, I think you'll notice a few changes in the 50 years you've been away, Gary! I've been here nearly 40 and the place has become very different in my time...

Roger, it's been over 50 years since I've even visited Japan, but I still have a deep appreciation for the beauty of the country. More recent travels although many years ago) have taken me to Southeast Asia where the area is overwhelmingly beautiful. I enjoy your work and am envious of your availablity to such spectacular images. Only the photographer can deveolop those images into permanent records and you have done a spectacular joby! Thank you.

Gary

The results of the "renovation" are certainly effective. You really captured the essence of the small little restaurants that have given me me so much pleasure over the past forty years. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

And thanks for visiting (and the comment), Sheldon. Did you take a look at my "Statues" folder? You might find a few interesting ones there... I've been taking them for a couple of years, now, and there are all sorts.

I like the lighting and textures on this.

Roger, here is an article by another man living in Japan, which I thought might interest you:

Yes, I see what you mean, Roger.
They seem to have created that typically 'seedy' look!
You've captured it well!
Best regards, Chris

Hey if you hadn't told us that it was a facade i would have thought it was a real old place. Never the less your composition is classic and this is a strong photo. Excellent eye.

Very interesting work there... to make it looks older.... the oposite of what we always want. )
Well done, Roger. Thanks for sharing!

Ah yes, Gabriela, but the point of the photo was to show that this wood is all cladding on the outside of a perfectly normal building, so I deliberately left the bit above showing... there was a lot more but I felt I had to leave this much. I agree it would be a better picture without it, but think of it as journalism!

very nice angle and composition, Roger
I like the placement of writings and spreading of red colors in this picture
I love that kind of antique door also

I like it more if I make the upper glass part disappear by moving the mouse, then only the brownish part remains and it looks very good indeed. Quite worn out and well trodden! As Don said below, "very photogenic"!
All the best, dear Roger!
