Thanks for telling the story, and it really helps frame the picture (the gun looks real to me, but I'm no expert). The emotion's still there -- but I feel much better about these kids now! For contrast, and a picture that to me is extremely sad, see image # 839651 by Kovac Tomas.

hi ned, these boys were just happily smoking and playing with the gun (which is of course just a toy) when i was coming out of the metro station. i asked them if i could shoot and they were more than happy to pose for my camera. i agree that it is sad, but at least they were happy and having fun just like kids should be. it's something you would like comparing to many kids on streets intentionally looking miserable just to get money from strangers.

An amazing photo. It would be good to have you tell the story of how it happened: did you come upon them by accident, or do you know them? Either way, the gun is no joke, and a sad contrast to the Harry Potter tee shirt.
