Excellent shot, Mary. I like the pairings of people very much (even the two people seen in the window on the far left) juxtaposed against the sole man's face in the foreground who's looking away. Well seen and captured.

even if this is the staff choise and bla bla bla, frankly speaking I'm not keen on the crop of the person of the right. the oof is fine, but you have cropped his face leaving the less interesting part of the head

If you want, I can comment you in French: for me it's a little simpler than in english...

Si tu veux, je peux te commenter en français... pour moi c'est en petit plus simple qu'en anglais..

Ciao, A.

I know this feeling, luckily it happens rarely to me...

could be a new way of successful therapy, tell everything to a stranger...

Mary Vareli Mary Vareli   {K:15826} 10/9/2004
I totally agree... but you know what happens when one suffers from the syndrome, he/she believes that all people have a match, are together...

on the other hand, concerning your thoughts It has happened to me to meet someone shortly and say more things than I will ever say in my whole life with a close person...it is the quality and not the quantity that matters, especially nowadays that abudance in everything, even frienships, is a quite common phenomenon.

a kiss

a few minutes together, rarely ends in a lifetime friendship...

I had this experience once in my life, Sylvia became one of my best friends...

great serie

Simply wonderful for it feeling so deep and intensive.
Great B/W Mary
Faces of individuals tell a different story each other. I like the special frame maded by the window where there are two guy who are speaking in opposition to the man blurred so creating a diagonal composition which assume a strong visual impact (considering the title too)
My best compliments for mentions

Shoot out of boredom? no, not at all... people dive in thoughts or in their favourite activities in the metro, they are not very concentrated on what they do (travelling) as they want to forget the time they spend there. In this subconscious situation they are (we are also)some deeper parts of the self are present, or just some characteristics! Let alone that the fact that they are close to each other means that they form great visual combinations! IN CAMERA... Nevertheless it is not easy to shoot in there without becoming rude, one must do it fast as everything changes all the time, and of course one cannot run in case of someone else's getting veeeery angry!

Mary,

have you been to Berlin lately? Funny, when I was in Athens, I did a candid Metro capture as well -- have a look. What is it what keeps us shooting while riding the tube? Boredom? Or fascination with all those strange faces around us? We should meet next time...

____________________________________________
Thank you my friend, I like to hear it from you... the concept of the whole series is the loneliness people feel when they are alone or without the one or the ones they love. In this case everything seems empty , and is empty even if there are people around, which is worse in this case as all people seem to be together with someone? I tried to show the feeling of isolation in many ways. Even when these people die and they grave stones are together, even when their heart is broken after their death ... Check the portfolio under this title.

Hi Mary, This is just Excellent. One of those shots I could continue rambling about without touching the essence of why I like it so much.... Reading through the comments you have already received, most of it has been said already. There's only one thing to add. I think this is one of the few examples where a slight tilt does actually add something to the atmosphere. My utmost compliments....

Cheers,

Hugo

Nice captured instant. The choice of grainy shot is great, and the blurred face on the first plane is well done. Excellent composition.

Thank you Karen! It is amazing what one can find in the subway! When I shot the image I had not seen the people outside the window! So it was surprising for me too, to see the third "couple" afterwards. Taking shots outside can bring the "director" out of us sometimes! I love shots with people inside as much as I like wild experimentation!

Bradley Prue Bradley Prue   {K:30678} 10/6/2004
Nicely composed..the elements are plentiful and interesting. The grain is very effective with this "moody" shot. Your focal point is excellent, with the man in the foreground balancing everything! ..Brad

I agree with Karen.. looks like they talking about him.. very good drama as John said.. the grain adds alot! Superb composition.. great tones! I like it.. =)

Here you have several coupled up people either sitting or standing out the window. And then there is the man which even though he is close and blurred, you can sense what he is feeling through the bit of emotion displayed, disgusted by all of the friends chatting meanwhile he is there alone-looking in an opposite direction in such disgust and misery. Well seen Mary~
