  Q. polarizers

I think I've got this right but I want to clarify to be sure.

Linear polarizers are for manual focus lenses regardless of whether the camera itself is manual or autofocus. Correct?

Circular polarizers are for auto focus cameras with auto focus lenses. Correct?

I'm asking because I have a number of manual focus lenses that I want to use on my new auto focus camera (the camera has a MF mode of course).

Is it all about the lens or does the camera's metering system figure into this as well?

No, you got it wrong.

Linear polarisers are for MOST manual focus CAMERAS.
Circular polarisers are for (nearly) all autofocus cameras irrespective of the lens you have fitted (and some MF cameras as well, but those are rare).

The polariser affects the light meter (or rather the amount of light reaching the meter).
The light is split between light going to the focussing screen/viewfinder and the lightmeter. This can for example be a prism, but a polariser can also be used.
In AF cameras this is usually done through a mechanism that gets fooled by a linear polariser, meaning the amount of light reaching the meter is no longer the expected percentage of total light, thus the meter reacts incorrectly.

By using a circular polariser this is prevented.
