Q. Stroboscopic flash w/ Canon Speedlite

I recently bought a Canon 580EX Speedlite to go with my Canon 20D, and would like to try to use the stroboscopic feature. I will be using it to shoot action pics of snowboarders and skiers, day and night. I have never shot anything like this, and would like some advice or any tips anyone has. I am mainly wondering about how the multiple bursts of light affect the exposure.
