  Q. PLEASE Give them a chance . . . . . . !!!
Kambiz K
Asked by Kambiz K   Donor  (K=37420) on 5/23/2006
Would you please write your opinion about my suggestion:
I wrote it the night before about giving chance to other unknown photographers to be recognized by your UFVG (UF Virtual Gift).
I noticed that few well-known or normal photographers got more than enough recognitions by getting UFVG and published their images over and over under several categories: EC, SC, POD, FCOTD, PPOTM, FD, PrOTD, .... .
Would it be possible to GIVE A CHANCE TO OTHER UNKNOWN PHOTOGRAPHERS to be recognised by UF?
Let's realize that by repeating on and on about few photographers whose images come on the first page on and on would not help others to produce better images.
Thank you for your consideration.

I think some times photography is similar to fishing.
I have never done fishing, but I have seen many times that in an exact moment that only God knows, a person could catch the biggest one in the area!

I think the photographer of the following image got that great moment to catch the beauty of his/her subject exactly on the spot.
I feel very STRONGLY, the UF staff should appreciate his/her catch by recognizing it and give the photographer one of those UF virtual trophies to that photographer.
I have seen so many (UFVG) to many people and some people got more than few!

Let's recognise the work of other unknown photographers who never had that opportunity to get UFVG.
Let's feel happiness in their soul and heart.
God bless.

well it just got POD. congratulations, your nagging worked. personally, I don't think the image was all that good. there are other more worthy images in this person's portfolio that you should have brought to the judges attention.

long live UFOs.

hi,Kambiz...i agree that this shot of the little girl is quite good and now has photo of the day award...but just so you know, this person also has these awards: http://www.usefilm.com/Photographer_Summary.asp?M=1&ID=92777&S=50

Also, some of the images you are nominating are by photographers who have many awards (one you nominated has 13!)
You can click on the left side on their main page to see their awards listed under "awards"....i only bring this up because you keep saying to recognize those "without" awards...

The front page is going through a rotation of old and new images,so not all are images with new awards....

Yes, it is nice to spread the recognition to a variety of outstanding images...but do not lose sight that UF is a critiquing /learning site and ALL awards are subjective choices...what you choose may not be what i would choose,or what staff would choose....

some sites give out awards to members which are known as "vanity awards"...this means that the site strokes their member's egos to encourage them to stay at that site...do you think that is honest? yes, it is encouraging to receive what you call "virtual goodies", but it is just as rewarding,if not more so,to be congratulated by our colleagues for capturing compelling or emotive shots,or that our image appeals to a variety of other photographers....

Good idea to continue to nominate those with few or no awards if the work is exceptional in some way....

peace,gayle
