  Q. E100S - SW Notice of Discontinuance

Asked by No More    (K=437) on 3/10/2003
This may be old news to some, but fear not those who raise an eyebrow as I did a week or two ago. Whilst lurking at the Kodak deathstar online I found plans that the E100S and SW are being replaced by two new films designated E100G and GX respectively. It appears that the G is the new equivalent of the S and the GX will replace the SW. Both these films are rated with an RMS of 8! (about time) Both these films apparently show brighter and cleaner whites, better contrast and consistent grey scale through the tonal range etc.

Check the Deathstar for more info.

My question is... Has anybody shot a test roll of this stuff yet, and if so could they be kind enough to give me a review and total rundown etc, etc, etc...

Best, Simon

I shot a roll of the GX about a week ago. There's a definite warm tone to it. Grain is really really fine, comparable to Velvia. Color is good but I prefer Velvia for what I shoot. My thought is that the GX would be a great film for portraits although I haven't tried that yet. If you liked the S and SW films, you'll probably also like the G and GX ones. I've never really been a fan but wanted to give it a shot anyway.

Cheers,
Thanks for the heads up, I was never a user of SW but I liked the S because of it's reciprocity and more neutral palette as opposed to VS. Any chance you could scan your pic with the GX and attach file to this post?

Here ya go Simon. Didn't touch it except for a crop and a bit of unsharp masking. Not the greatest pick in the world but I was playing around to find the film's limits.
