A Friend of Mine Mark yesterday wrote me:
"I haven't posted too much on usefilm lately. Its seems for some reason that it has lost its charm. There doesn't seem to be the friendship there that there once was."
I share his opinion, how about you ?
Anyone has any opinion, explanation?
Thanks for replay
Cheers :)

What a shame Adnan . . .

You know . . . I've enjoyed some of your work over the previous year . . . even commenting in March and April on some nice shots. While you haven't commented on any of my shots . . . you've been great about communicating with any photographer whose work has caught your eye.

I have to wonder if the answer is posting less if you are getting less of the previous friendship. Less results in less interaction, right? I do think posting too much is a problem . . . Usefilm provides a forum for you to post, meet, learn and grow (as you know). It's like providing a building. You, ultimately, are responsible for the interactions under the roof. I suspect that developing friends lists and online interactions - like any relationship - will have ups and downs.

I have some good online friends . . . some that were and aren't anymore . . . some that have been good friends who have left UF . . . and some to come that I don't know yet. A microcosm of life. Somedays . . . UF HAS lost it's charm . . . other days . . . it's just a great escape. It is what you make of it.

I'm curious about your explanation.

Best Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Dear Doyle !
First of all hallo to you too.
I think there is no reasone to take defensive position at all. Not to me.
All you wrote you have right(as i know).
Since i curently live in very small place i find it very big support to me and my work and also bring me some new friends.
The main reasone for my post here is question why people on usefilm generaly recived (and gives) so few comments and views lately? (it is not that i m saying that i m different, not at all)And that is the fact now and it wasnt before two or more months.
I know there is some very active and friendly members as for exemple Shirley D. Cross and some others very positive people.
But generally things are little bit different now, dont you think ?
You can see it on recent 100 posts.
Dont you think so and if, what is your explanation?
So nothing agains UF, only simple observation.
Hope you wont get me wrong.
Looking forward to hear from you!
Cheers
Adnan

the site's growing, maybe too quickly, with a lot of people coming in who have no interest in the community aspect but only want a quick fix, either a place to store their vacation snapshots or to ask a question and be gone without even acknowledging the answer.

That's the bane of a successful website, such people always show up in increasing numbers as the site grows.
The only ways to (mostly) keep them away is to go fully commercial, not offer free membership at all, or to require some sort of interview with the prospective member before he's allowed to join (through IM or email for example).

Hi All, might be a bit late to carry on with this thread, but I found the same, especially this year, but then again it could be that every body is back to work again. I am new to UF and love my photography, and joined here to get comments on my photos, so as to help me better my photography, and to expose myself to the wealth of brilliant photographers out there, (For inspiration)but there seem to be very few comments. I see lots of people stop by to view photo`s, all over the site, but not that many comment, let alone rate an image. I understand that viewing other peoples pics and rating them will or would most likely attract them to my pics, but this ran out. Is it that some peoples profiles have shown their potential and not worth commenting on. Is`nt there a way to get people to at LEAST rate a picture before they leave the viewing page.
Cheers
Russell

I've been on the web for about 10 years now, participated in this site and a few other special interest sites, such as a petchat, couple other photo sites, and a couple art sites. The thing I've noticed in ALL the sites is that they go through cycles, and the interesting thing is: if it's busy on one site, it's busy on all the others...and when one lulls, they all slow down. I still haven't figured out the cause, they were all good sites and I met a lot of friendly people. I think the reasons are on a much broader scope than I can possibly account for, this may be a good research topic for some graduate student in psychology. I know that during certain times of the year I'm busy with commitments in my own life and simply don't have the time to participate as much as I'd like. Perhaps seasons, world events, economics, etc. play a role in how much time a "population" within a site can give to a site. All I can say for sure is, stay tuned...because a slowdown only lasts for a while until things start picking up again.

Hi Chelsea, thank you very much for replying, and i do understand that there will be quiet times and busy times, but if you look around on the site there are some people who have almost all their pictures rated and then some who have very few ratings. my point is that i can use or at least get some sort of indication of what others think of my photo`s. What`s nice to me is no good to someone else, but each photo has its merits and deserves to be acknowledged, and isnt that what the rating are for. I love this site and all the great people taking part in it, and I am much more entusiastic now, because its like entering a competition every single day. :) But as you said, I`ll stay tuned because its great fun to be here.

Hi Adnan,
I am new to UF & photography comparing to you. But what I really felt is there are not much comments posting for photos. I do not know the reason why it happens now. When I joined UF last year there are many guys to add a comment. But now very few. That does not mean the quality has gone down a lot.
And lot of experience guys like yourself is no more on UF. We the amateurs love to see you guys work and learn. But seems lost with out you guys. So the best thing is to come and post again and make the lost friendship again.

Regards
Sudeera.
