Q. Fungus in Lens.

After my trip to Howaii, I found that my 2XS Converter has a scratch on the coating of its internal element, which is not in the Centre of the lens. Also, in the perferal areas of one of the internal elements of my 50mm Pentax (f 1.4) two spots of fungus were formed. In you experience, how such problems can affect the sharpness of the image. Thanks.

Shary, the scratch may not be of any consequence if it's small....it may cause some aberation, but may not be that serious. The fungus is very serious. It will cause permanent damage and is likely to get worse if it is not professionally removed; it may already have done damage that might make replacing the lens cheaper than having it repaired.

Thanks for your comments Steve. I have not visited Usefilm for a while, and this is why I saw your comments today. I found out that what I thought was fungus, was a bit of dirt, which I think got into my lens when I was in Hawaii (Big Island). I checked with an expert repair technician here in Toronto (Canada). I used the same lens many times, and the small dirt does not seem to have any effect on the image.
I always appreciate your comments.
