About
Using a Nikon D1x, 24-85mm Nikon Lens, I set the focal length to 28mm, WB to Flash and f-stop to f16. Using the camera on bulb mode and a remote cable release, I held the shutter open for approximately between 4 and 5 seconds, while using a Metz flash (on cord) set to one stop over the lens aperature (f16), and held at arms length to the left of the camera and near my tripods feet with ISO on both flash and camera set to 400. Although the boat and surrounding water were slightly moving due to the actions of the tide, using the flash acted as a strobe, to expose the brighter portions of the boat and reflection in the near ground with a certain sharpness, nullifying what would otherwise be a blurry exposure on those near objects. the water past the boat and effective range of the flash is less defined due to the long exposure and reflective ambient lighting.
