It could be that you are right Mary, about the tales I mean. Actually it is not old enough, but in fact, when the Americans invaded Canada in the 1812 War, they did come up from the border of NY to take Montreal. They came with some 300 troops and prceeded along the banks of the Chateauguay River until they met a small force of French Canadian Voliteurs who had prw\epared a defence of brushwood and a log fence. The battle lasted 2 hours and the Americans retreated, much to the disnmay of their own soldier in general. The commander, General Wilkinson, through having a squabble with his superior at that time in another place attacking British forces, did not want to risk losing the battle, so he retreated. Had he persisted, surely Montreal would have fallen, a great presicament for the British. This tree is on the north bank of the river and perhap 1 km further on is the actaul site of the battle. I figure that this tree is not old enough, but yes, it must have some tales to tell.

A very neat looking tree. It looks like it has long arms reaching out. I'll bet if it could talk, it would have some tales to tell. Nice picture.
