About Street mirror at the entrance of a parking garage. Far right in the mirror is Copp's Colliseum in Hamilton, ON.
Post-processed in PS. Added a "smoldering" color to the corner of the brick building.

Jeff Wall sounds familiar. I'll have to research him.

Hi Ina,
That's not such a bad idea you have about detaching a mirror and using it for effects. There are probably some real freaky looking convex or concave shaving mirrors available at Walmart for $3.98. Who needs a $2.000 fish-eye lens?
Drop by my portfolio anytime. There is plenty of archive stuff in there.
Andre

Thanks Aram, I love distorted views AND mirrors. I find them fascinating. This was an accident, I didn't plan it, just happened to walk by, across from the library (you know, after the Caruso photo shoot :)

Beautiful "view-in-view" capture. A double and triple reflection with distorsion of the mirror. It's sometimes better to get a wider though distorted picture rather than a perfectly flat reflection of a wall!

Great idea for a DOF shot!

Hi Andre, I saw your convex mirror picture and I love it! Definitely worth doing more with these! Too bad we can't detach them and re-orient them. I'll be away from UF for a couple of days, but will definitely come back to re-visit your great portfolio!

That's really something. In the early 90's, performance art and video were the hot things. I guess they still are in some circles. Photography wasn't even mentioned, other than perhaps the pinhole camera. In Canadian Art I learned about Jeff Wall, and that's it. As if nothing existed between the pinhole camera and Jeff Wall. I still have a big gap to fill :)

Thanks for the wishes, same to you, but I'll be still around, I'm away from UF for a couple of days only :)

Oh I know! When I took art history, 2 semesters of it in 1981-82, there were still a lot of hold-outs who didn't think photography as a fine art medium was valid. But the Beatles were. They dedicated two class sessions on the Beatles. That was okay. Back then, they were all hung up on canvas size, and size altogether. Mural size paintings, 8 foot tall bronzes, ceramics weighing at least 100 pounds. Ridiculous notion. Back then, there was a photographer named Lucas Samaras. His photos were the smallest works of art that was exhibited in a lot of museum shows we went to. He worked with Polaroid SX-70's.

You're welcome. I knew the V.P. filter would be useful, and the Holga filter for some situations. I'm just glad to see you work with it and show me new things. Best wishes for the season and the new year!

Hi Mark, mirrors are definitely something worth exploring, you sent me Googling to Photography History, and I found a great deal of work that I wasn't aware. Thanks, it really opened up my eyes! It's strange that Photography isn't part of Art History in the regular curricular sense. I find I'm missing a lot. Have to fill a huge gap.

Mark, I am forever grateful for your sharing of the Holga and Virtual Photographer knowledge with me. It opened a whole new world of ideas :)

I've always liked mirrors in photos ever since seeing Andre Kertesz' experiments with it. And I also think Man Ray did, too. With the fisheye mirror, I get an impression that it's a big world out there to explore.

Thanks Neal (blush) - I get inspired by seeing others' work (including yours), in many, many ways. Sometimes my own images seem to have some element in common with someone else's image I've seen here or somewhere. Or a comment may influence me to go one way or another in my choices - like the Holga filter, where a month before I had no idea what a Holga was! That's the beauty of being in a community with like-minded people, I get the support and motivation to keep going, and lots of ideas that I can reference. That's why I think this site is so different from others I've been on, because communication is the key. I've felt like this from day one, and I'm still amazed at the quality of people and photography that are here!

I suppose we all inspire each other but I can't imagine you need inspiration from anyone. This is really fun, very pleasingly composed.

John, if you say so, I'll print this up and hang it on the wall! Thanks :)
I also think I'll buy an asbestos suit :)

oh wow! ......... best street mirror distortion image I've ever seen, and I've seen it tried many times. And you got this one without losing the hard light and contrast that characterizes much of the work you have posted here. [I bet you cleaned the mirror first] Now I want to jump up and go looking for one to play with too!

ps ...... distortions get you boiled in heavier oil then simple PS post-working
