About This is a shot of Carolus Linnaeus (b.1707 -1778) who was largely
responsible for the hierarchical classification system of living things that we use today. This shot was also taken in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, like many of my recent works... enjoy!

I have included the original shot for you, and others to compare if needed. Firstly, I 'cleaned up' the statue, removing some spiderwebs etc. and converted to b&w. I also use dodge and burn and added an 'overlay' duplicate layer to enhance the effect, all thanks to that digital photography manual I bought :) Btw, I believe it is difficult to avoid overexposure when dealing with b&w pictures while trying to present areas of light and dark - just look at your new profile pic (which I love, by the way). Thanks for commenting Nadia, best of luck to you!

Ah, someone else who takes photos of statues! I do this quite a lot (they are such patient subjects and NEVER blink their eyes at the critical moment). Thanks for your kind comment on my panorama. If you have Java enabled on your computer point your browser at www.adex-japan.com/roger to see how one of these panoramas should REALLY be viewed. It's a big image, so be patient while its downlading... Use the cursor keys to pan L/R and U/D, and the shift and ctrl keys to zoom in and out. Hope you like it! This panorama also appears on Usefilm as a more normal "photo."

I like the patterns made by the bright sunlight on his face Michael. Well seen!

Michael, I really like this picture. It seems like you put an effect on the statue, did you? I love the tones, especially on his hair and shoulder...some parts are overexposed but on the whole it doesn't matter, still makes an excellent tribute to the man :)
